2.3.1 Why flip? (read, follow the instructions, do the task and export your page)

The flipped classroom approach is a student-centered model that is aimed at increasing the engagement of students, understanding and encouraging the reversing the traditional classroom teaching approach.

This model focuses on practical application of knowledge during the class. Lecturers with large classes can particularly benefit from the method as Schullery et al. (2011) suggests that a move from passive, lecture model for as many as 300 students was flipped to more active learning in smaller groups that were provided with the opportunity to come to class prepared.

Active learning requires students to do meaningful learning activities and think about more practical use of knowledge.

The flipped classroom model also provides several opportunities for one-to-one interaction with students in order to increase development of higher-order skills (Lage et al. 2000) through analysis, evaluation and creating (Bloom's taxonomy).
